Principal's Greeting

Dear Visitors,

I would like to welcome you to the Saint Anthony Catholic School (SAS) web site! For sixty years, SAS has been providing the students of Harlingen and the surrounding areas a quality Catholic education. Our dedicated faculty and staff are called not merely to instruct but to witness Christ's love in the classroom, at church, on the playing field, and in the streets. Accepting the leadership responsibility of shaping young minds takes enormous dedication and sensitivity. Helping a student learn, grow, and mature is a privilege. Saint Anthony Catholic School offers the students basic core classes in Religion, Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. In addition students also take an enhancing enrichment curriculum: Spanish, Music, Art, Physical Education, Computers, and Library. Besides our academic program, students develop an understanding of Catholic worship by participating in liturgies: an all school weekly mass, special liturgies for holy and feast days, prayer services, and sacramental preparation. At the center of who we are as a Catholic school, students engage in service projects throughout the year as a school, classes, and individuals. At the same time, students are asked to come forth and participate in the parish as altar servers, choir members and lectors.

In addition to our core curriculum SAS students participate in a variety of athletics (basketball, volleyball, softball and track and field) and extracurricular activities (i.e.drama club, Spanish club, student council, and Private School Interscholastic Association competition and National Junior Honor Society).

A Catholic student is taught to balance creativity with discipline, individuality with the spirit of cooperation, competition with the sense of fair play. The ideal student is not necessarily the class valedictorian, the star athlete, or the most likely to succeed; he/she is the one most committed to using his/her talents to serve Christ throughout life.

Blessings,

Mrs. Lisette Allen, M.Ed.
