5th Grade

Rosa Pena

My name is Miss Rosa Pena and I am the 5th grade homeroom teacher. I teach Math, Science, and Social Studies to 4th grade and 5th grade students. I have 35 years of teaching experience teaching 1st through 6th grade. I am a certified Bilingual teacher. I started my teaching career at St. Anthony School teaching 4th grade for 4 years. I then moved to Incarnate Word Academy in Brownsville where I taught 5th and 6th for 7 years and was involved in many extra-curriculum activities. I then moved to San Benito School District and taught there for 24 years at Ed Downs Elementary. I recall the first year I was hired, the principal was Mr. Cano, a former student’s parent from St. Anthony. The grades I taught there were 1st through 3rd grade with 8 years in 3rd grade. I taught the many skills needed to master the STARR state test experiencing a great feeling of accomplishment when score arrived and students’ scores were high. In 2013-2014 I was named “Teacher of the Year” for Ed Downs Elementary. I would like to say that it is an honor working with an admirable group of staff, faculty, and students. God Bless You, Miss Pena
