Third Quarter Letter to Parents

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Thank you so much for your continued support of your child’s education and of Saint Anthony Catholic School.  This school is a fantastic place, and your dedication to and care for your child’s education is a major reason for that.  Thank you also for all of the wonderful and generous Christmas gifts.  I really appreciate your kindness. 

We have already begun the third quarter, and the Fifth Grade is continuing to work hard and to learn a lot.  I ask that you continue to sign the Friday Folder every week and to please write to me in the Friday Folder, schedule a conference (12:00-12:45 or 3:30-4:00 most days) by calling the office, or email me at fifthgrade@saintanthonyeagles.com if you have any questions or concerns whatsoever.  Also, the new school website (saintanthonyeagles.com) will be launched this Sunday.  Our test schedule, project and paper descriptions, and other announcements will be posted on the Fifth Grade page of the website every week.

Students will once again be required to read aloud for at least an hour every week and to practice their multiplication facts at least three times a week at home.  A form has been stapled in the Friday Folder for you to document that your child has done so.  Students will also be required to earn at least fifteen AR points this quarter.  A form for each student to document his or her progress has also been stapled into the Friday Folder.  Finally, there is form in the Friday Folder for students to document their accuracy and time after completing their multiplication and division strips in the classroom. 

Next week we will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week.  The list of all the events for this exciting week is included in this week’s Friday Folder.  I will highlight some of the events here.  Our celebration begins with the 10:00 A.M. Mass on Sunday, January 31.  Students who come and wear their Friday uniform will be given an out of uniform day next week.  Parents are invited to the school prayer service and pep rally at the flag pole at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2.  On Wednesday, February 3, we will be having a pot luck lunch in the classroom.  Students are invited to sign up outside our classroom to bring a dish for the class to share.  There will be no cafeteria service on Wednesday.  On Friday, February 5, the family picnic will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.  Parents are welcome to bring lunch and eat outside with their children. 

Finally, the Fifth and Seventh Grades are sponsoring a school-wide paper and plastic bottle recycling program.  We have asked teachers to convert one of their trash bins into a recycling bin.  We will provide every classroom with signs for their recycling bin and will collect the recycling every Friday afternoon.  We will need to bring the school’s recycling to the Harlingen Recycling Center every week, and there will be a sign-up sheet posted outside our classroom for parents to sign up to help us bring the recycling to the Center each week.
