Fulfilling A Need
Since 1947, St. Anthony Catholic School has been serving Harlingen, San Benito, and the surrounding areas, with an educational opportunity in a safe and nurturing environment. Today, St. Anthony School is the only Catholic School in the Harlingen area for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
Commitment to Excellence
The school offers a rigorous, relevant, and religious curriculum individualized for each student that inspires learning. The staff and faculty are dedicated to each student’s success. St. Anthony students consistently score higher than their peers on national standardized tests.
Students participate in weekly Mass and seasonal celebrations. The teachings and examples of Jesus permeate the entire school atmosphere.
All students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities including choir, band, academic competitions, drama, chess, sports, and Student Council. Students are also involved in community service activities such as canned food drives, collecting money for natural disasters, and recycling.
St. Anthony Requires Financial Support
The school relies on financial support beyond student tuition and Parish donations. Tuition covers approximately 60% of the cost to educate a student. The remainder comes from Parish donations, grants and disbursements from the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees.
School Endowment Fund
Established in 1982, the Fund provides support which is vital for St. Anthony Catholic School. Governed by a Board of Trustees, its purpose is to receive, raise, and collect gifts, contributions and grants. The Fund’s only purpose is to provide financial support to St. Anthony School.
Tax Deductible Donation
The Fund is a 501, (c) non-profit corporation. All gifts and contributions to the Fund can be deducted on income tax returns.
How The Fund Works
Earnings from the Fund are donated to St. Anthony School, but the principle is never spent. Funds are invested in securities under the direction of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees works closely with the Principal of the School and the Pastor of St. Anthony Church to periodically distribute earnings to support capital improvements such as building repairs, new curricula, and technology updates.
Why Must The Fund Grow?
Operational costs of the school continue to increase as the school maintains and improves the quality of education it provides. It is only through further growth of the Endowment Fund’s principle that earnings can increase to support the school. Since all contributions to the Fund are deposited into the principal, any contributions made will support the school for generations.
Filling The Need
With your support, St. Anthony School will continue to provide a Catholic education to students in Harlingen and surrounding areas. It is the school’s ultimate goal to provide a Catholic education to ALL children who desire to attend.
