LESSONPLANS May 21-25

We will be having our end of the year celebration this Monday, May 21.  There is a sign up sheet outside the classroom.  Please come by and sign up.  I thank you in advance for your continued support.

As many of you may know, we will be remodeling our Montessori and Welcome Patio lavatory facilities this summer. We are also planning to upgrade the classrooms that do not have sufficient access to technology and the required software programs. All classes in all grade levels will be required to integrate technology throughout the curriculum. A nap room will be initiated for those Montessori children who are required to nap. This will also serve as the room for the afterschool program and a meeting room. As Father Larry mentioned during Noche de Fiesta, the church and school are planning a major initiative to build a multi-purpose room with a stage, kitchen, and classrooms. This will be a new focus for everyone so we can Lord willing break ground in about two years.

St. Anthony School and the Diocese of Brownsville have adopted new curriculum guides across all grade levels. This curriculum is aligned with national testing standards, the TEKS, and is capable of being manipulated in accordance to the learning needs of each learner. St. Anthony School has also purchased a variety of textbook upgrades that provide more in-depth details to specific content area. K-5 will be utilizing a new mathematics textbook. New resources have also been purchased to assist the teachers in facilitating effective instruction. An interactive technology program will also be utilized for each grade level. Students will have access to their math textbook online. These programs will allow the students to review and excel to the next lesson. We are also looking into the possibility of arranging for a 5^th grade trip to NASA every school year. This is relevant and geared towards the 5^th grade science curriculum.

St. Anthony Middle School has purchased new Math and Language Arts textbooks (grades 3-8). Middle school will also have access to the interactive technology. The middle school will be offering specialized schedules with a new option for students to choose the elective they wish to pursue. Each school year, a middle school student may choose two electives: Art, Band, Choir, or Theater (small activity fee may apply). Electives are grades that will be part of their scholastic achievement. Our first Pre-AP course will be offered in Language Arts. This course will only be available for 8^th grade students. It is a very intense, high paced and rigorous course. Students must have at least a 90% or higher in LA and a letter of recommendation from his/her prior LA teacher. The following year we will add an additional Pre-AP course and include the 7^th grade.  The Spanish and Technology curriculum will focus on more in-depth details and critical analysis. All middle school students will begin to create a writing portfolio that will be utilized and saved throughout their academic experience at St. Anthony School. Certain writing projects and research papers will be required throughout their years in middle school. All middle school students will be required to complete a certain amount of service hours each semester. As part of the authentic and holistic learning experience in social studies, we are looking into the possibilities for the 6^th grade to travel to Goliad State Park.  We are also looking to include the 7^th grade with the 8^th grade for the retreat to Camp Eagle for leadership, team-work, and spiritual formation.

Programs, clubs, and intervention services will be a new focus to the school. Every teacher will moderate a club and/or sponsor a program. These will be held Monday-Thursday from 3:30-4:00 pm. Students in 1^st-8^th grade will have the opportunity to participate in clubs such as: Math club, Reading club, Scripture reading club, Liturgical choir, Journalism, Technology, Chess, Art, Photography, Cooking, and much more!! Academic Intervention Services will be available for those who have 79% or below in Reading, Math, or Language Arts. After the first quarter, students in grades 1st-8th who exceed the learning standards for St. Anthony School will have the option to receive a more enhanced and extreme curriculum plan; this will only be at the request of the parent and the recommendation of the teacher.

These are just some of the major highlights coming to our school for 2012-2013. In every aspect of faith, academics, and service; our students will always be challenged to become tomorrow’s leaders today.
